About Us

Our nursery is brimming with high quality toys and equipment to enable children to have fun and learn at the same time. Outside, we benefit from our own enclosed garden that is used for outside play sessions.

We are open Monday to Friday between the hours of 7.00am and 7.00pm. Each day is carefully structured with a range of activities and food breaks.

Mid morning milk and a snack is provided together with a hot lunch and dessert. Drinks are available at all times. Breakfast and tea can be provided at an additional charge. All food times are supervised and children are encouraged to have good table manners. We aim to teach them how to lay the table and to use cutlery.

Our staff are fully trained with varying qualifications in child care that are all approved by Ofsted and they are CRB checked. Our team has been selected for their knowledge and commitment to providing an outstanding quality of care. Working together, we provide a balanced creative and learning atmosphere to help develop your child to their full potential.

Abacus Day Nursery is regularly inspected by Ofsted, who look at the quality of care and education that we provide for your child. Inspectors check that the care and education offered helps children reach the 'six learning' goals which are detailed below:

  • Personal and Social Development - focuses on children learning how to work, play and co-operate with others and mix in a group other than their family.

  • Language and Literacy - focuses on children developing skills in talking and listening, and in reading and writing.

  • Mathematics - covers understanding in maths and provides the basics in using numbers.

  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World - develops children's awareness of their environment, other people and features of the world.

  • Physical Development - focuses on children developing physical control, mobility, awareness of space and manipulative skills both indoors and outdoors.

  • Creative Development - allows children to explore their imagination and enable them to communicate and to express their ideas and feelings in creative ways.

Our activities are carefully planned to cover the six areas of learning and include:

Inside play - drawing - painting - play dough - cooking - dress up/role play - sand and water play - construction.

Outside play - climbing equipment - tunnels - trikes - skittles - and many more.

The Oxford Reading Scheme is the most popular reading scheme in the UK and is used in approximately 10,000 primary schools. At the nursery we encourage the children to participate with the reading scheme, with group stories and games that introduce them to the scheme and the characters. The children are taught in small groups with group stories and games, and on a one to one basis for reading.

Through our activities we aim that prior to leaving us to join primary school, your child will be able to write/recognise their name, and have made a head start with reading and simple number work. The social skills acquired by mixing with other children and adults, and the recognition of an adult/child relationship will be beneficial to your child.

To see Abacus in operation, we strongly recommend that you visit us. We are happy to show visitors around, this being the best way to see how we work. All we ask is that you contact us to make an appointment, you can do this via the contact us page.
